The 2023 World University Games will be held on 28 July to 8 August 2023 in Chengdu, China.

In Canada, some of our top players are currently College or University students (also CEGEP in QC), therefore, TTCAN will include the 2023 FISU World University Games in its 2023 program.

The selection criteria and selection method will be announced soon after it is decided by the TTCAN National Team Committee (NTC).

FUNDING:

  • This will be a self-funded event, however, TTCAN will provide a contribution towards the costs and will provide 2 coaches at TTCAN’s expense.
  • The cost per athlete will be determined by U-Sports Canada and will be announced as soon as TTCAN is informed.

TEAM SIZE:

Each country is authorised to enter a maximum of 5 men and 5 women athletes as follows:

Individual events:

  • Men’s Singles: a maximum of 5 players
  • Women’s Singles: a maximum of 5 players
  • Men’s Doubles: a maximum of 2 pairs
  • Women’s Doubles: a maximum of 2 pairs
  • Mixed Doubles: a maximum of 2 pairs

Team tournament:

  • Men’s Team tournament: 1 team with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 players
  • Women’s Team tournament: 1 team with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 players

ELIGIBILITY (FISU Regulations)

5.2.2. Only the following may participate as athletes in the FISU World University Games:

  1. students who are currently officially registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma at the university or similar institute, the status of which is recognised by the appropriate national academic authority of their country;
  2. former students of the institutions mentioned in a) who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the three calendar years* preceding the event (i.e., 2020, 2021 and 2022).

* limit extended to three calendar years in order to allow those who met the conditions in 2021 to take part in the FISU Games also in 2023.

5.2.4. Nationality and Age Restriction

All athletes must satisfy the following conditions:

  • be a national of the country they represent (Canadian Citizen);
  • be at least 18 and no older than 27 years of age on the 31 December of the year of the event (i.e., born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2005).*

* age limit extended to 27 years in order to allow those who met the conditions in 2021 to take part in the FISU Games also in 2023.
