Canada’s squad for the 2018 PANAM Championships is set. Santiago de Chile will be the host for this year’s Championships that will determine the participating teams at next year’s PANAM Games in Lima, Peru.
Canada’s Men’s team will be led by veteran Eugene Zhen Wang (ON) who showed that he is in a class of his own in Canada at last weekend’s Butterfly Canada Cup #2 in Waterloo, ON. His leadership will be an important asset for Canada’s #1 Junior Jeremy Hazin (ON) and Marko Medjugorac (QC). The team will go into the competition with an eye on the podium. Brazil will be the team to beat; other strong opposition will come from the US, Argentina, Mexico, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
Mo Zhang (BC) will lead the women’s team with Alicia Côté (QC) and Ivy Liao (BC) completing the team. As with the men, Canada has a chance to step on the podium with US, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Argentina and Chile as major hurdles.
Accompanying the team will be coaches Pradeeban Peter Paul and Yong Jiang Liu.
The Championships will be held from November 20-25, 2018 in Santiago, Chile.
