Table Tennis Canada is excited to introduce Mariann Domonkos (she/her) as a mentor in our groundbreaking Female Coach Mentorship Program. With an impressive 55 years of involvement in Table Tennis, Mariann brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this initiative, aimed at fostering female leadership in the sport.

Mariann’s coaching journey in Table Tennis began as a teenager.  With the perennial shortage of coaches, it was a perfect opportunity for her to earn some income.  Over the years, she has accumulated a vast array of coaching experience, including 15 years as national coach. Her exposure to world-class coaches and training methods first as an athlete and later as a coach, has shaped her coaching philosophy, which emphasizes building a fun and supportive environment while instilling a strong work ethic in her athletes.  She also stresses the importance of simplifying the myriads of technical details inherent to our sport into a framework of a few basic principles.

Throughout her extensive career, Mariann has prioritized the development of technical skills through effective teaching methods and a deepening understanding of the principles central to the techniques.  Without minimizing the other qualities that an athlete must develop in order to succeed, she firmly believes that a player’s potential is largely based on the strength of their technical foundation.

Her commitment to coaching is evident in her desire to see more coaches succeed and build viable careers our sport, while emphasizing the importance of increasing the number of female coaches.

Outside of Table Tennis, Mariann enjoys reading, photography, and participating in various physical activities that her knees can still tolerate. While she does not have specific role models, she acknowledges the significant influence of working under national coach Su Guoxi, both as a player and as an apprentice.

As Mariann embarks on this mentorship journey, she is excited about the opportunity to inspire and support the next generation of female coaches. Her passion for the sport and dedication to fostering a supportive coaching community will undoubtedly make a lasting impact.

Table Tennis Canada is proud to have Mariann as a mentor in this program, and we look forward to witnessing the positive changes she will help bring to the coaching landscape. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to empower female coaches and inspire the next generation of athletes in Canada!
