Table Tennis Canada is delighted to introduce Akiko Iwase, hailing from Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. Known for her bright personality and infectious sense of humor, Akiko brings not only the beauty of the Northern Lights but also a fun and engaging attitude to the world of table tennis. With a passion for the sport that spans over six years during her youth and a renewed commitment over the past three years, Akiko is eager to make a positive impact in her community through coaching.

Motivated by a desire to promote Table Tennis to individuals of all ages, Akiko is dedicated to sharing her love for the sport. Although she is new to coaching, her enthusiasm and willingness to learn are evident. She aims to focus on technical skills during her time in the mentorship program, particularly in teaching new types of strokes and effectively communicating these techniques to her players. Akiko believes that a solid foundation in technical skills is essential for athletes to thrive and enjoy the game.

Her coaching philosophy centers around the idea of having fun while playing hard. Akiko understands that enjoyment is a key component of sports, and she strives to create an environment where players can work hard while also having a great time. This approach not only fosters a love for the game but also encourages athletes to push their limits and develop their skills.

Outside of Table Tennis, Akiko enjoys a variety of hobbies, including broomball, traveling, and spending time with her beloved cats. Her diverse interests reflect her vibrant personality and her love for adventure, which she hopes to share with her athletes.

Akiko draws inspiration from her first coach and her parents, who have instilled in her the values of dedication and perseverance. Their support has motivated her to pursue coaching and to inspire others in the sport.

As Akiko embarks on her journey in the Women Coach Mentorship Program, she is eager to learn from experienced coaches about effective interactions with young athletes and to gather valuable tips that will enhance her coaching skills.

Table Tennis Canada is thrilled to have Akiko Iwase as part of the Women Coach Mentorship Program. Her enthusiasm for promoting Table Tennis and her commitment to creating a fun and supportive environment for players will undoubtedly make a lasting impact in her community.
