Manitoba’s Canadian National Team Athlete Matthew Lehmann will be participating in the Dupuy Verdier Show International Trick Shot Competition. We took some time to talk to him about this in more detail.
What is the Dupuy Verdier Show? And of course the ntrickshot competition?
On their instagram channel, The Dupuy Verdier Show calls themselves an “event creator/trick shot artist”. It’s run by two guys from France, and basically they post trick shots (mainly table tennis related) and also host trick shot tournaments on their account. Each player has to submit one trick shot and then each player/trick shot is matched up with another. On instagram, people can vote for their favourite between the two, and the one with the most votes, moves to the next round. It’s single knock-out.
Tell us Matthew, how did you make it into this competition?
They were looking for international professional players, and a friend from Europe suggested they ask me to be a part of it. They asked me and I was excited to join!

Who else is participating in this competition?
It starts with 32 professional players from around the world. Kirill Gerassimenko, Kenji Matsudeira, Par Gerell, Anthony Amalraj, and Anders Lind are among some of the top names in the draw. I think Stephanie Loeuillette from France is the highest ranked female player in the competition. That being said, this is a trick shot competition, not a regular match, so anything is possible!
Who will you be competition against?
My first match up is against Florencia Chirino from Argentina. If I manage to win, my round of 16 match would be against the winner of Anders Lind and Andrea Landrieu a couple days latter.
Without sharing too much information, let us know about your trick shot and how you prepared for it?
There’s a bit of a domino situation going on in the trick, and it was really difficult to get the pieces to fall in the right way. I actually filmed this at Christmas at hadn’t gotten around to posting it anywhere yet. My friend Daniel Thiessen, a collegiate volleyball player, helped me with the set up and recording, so shout out to him!
We are excited about this event and of course cheering for our Canadian. Don’t forget to vote for Matthew on June 16th, 2020 on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dupuyverdiershow/
