MONTREAL, QC (April 7, 2025) — Table Tennis Canada is thrilled to share the inspiring journey of Peter Isherwood, a standout Paralympian and a beacon of progress within the Canadian Table Tennis community. In a significant step forward for inclusivity and skill development, Peter has been selected as one of the 26 elite Team Canada athletes to participate in the prestigious Coach Education Program, a joint initiative by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) and Game Plan.
Since its inception in 2018, the Coach Education Program has been a cornerstone in nurturing Canada’s coaching talents, supporting over 140 athletes in their transition from competitors to coaches. This program is particularly notable for its impact on female athletes, with over 95 participants benefitting from the CAC’s Women in Coaching program. This initiative not only emphasizes the importance of mentorship but also focuses on the recruitment and retention of female coaches, which is vital for the growth and diversity of our sports community.
Peter Isherwood, known for his Table Tennis skills, is set to bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to the next generation of athletes. As a recipient of the program’s funding, Peter will receive up to $1,000 to cover his training costs. This support will enable him to pursue formal coaching education in either the Competition-Introduction stream, the Competition-Development stream, or through the Advanced Coaching Diploma.
This year marks the 10th iteration of the Coach Education Program, and with athletes like Peter Isherwood participating, the future of Canadian sports looks brighter than ever. These coaches are not just teaching techniques and strategies; they are shaping the personal and athletic lives of young competitors, ensuring a legacy of excellence and integrity in Canadian sports.
Peter’s journey is a testament to the power of transition—from mastering skills as an athlete to imparting wisdom as a coach. His involvement in the program is expected to have a significant positive impact on both the table tennis community and the broader Canadian sports system.
