With the 2027 Canada Winter Games less than six months away, Table Tennis Canada’s preparations are moving from planning to practice. Marles Martins, Technical Director for Table Tennis Canada and Competition Manager for Table Tennis at the 2027 Games, recently visited Quebec City to get a closer look at the competition venue and connect with the Games’ organizing team.

Located in the heart of downtown, the Centre des Congrès de Québec will provide the setting for athletes from across Canada to compete, represent their provinces and territories, and experience one of the country’s largest multisport events.

The site visit was an opportunity to walk through the venue and better understand how the competition will take shape. Discussions included flooring, lighting, table placement and the overall layout, with attention to creating an environment that supports both athlete performance and a positive Games experience.

Beyond the playing area, preparations also involve understanding how different Games functions connect with Table Tennis. Coordination around athlete arrivals, practice opportunities, officials, equipment and daily scheduling helps bring the many pieces of a successful competition together.

For Martins, the visit reinforced the importance of the work happening behind the scenes. Athletes and coaches are investing considerable time and effort in their preparations, and the goal is to match that commitment with a well-organized, welcoming competition environment. “It is exciting to see what is in store for our Canadian athletes. They are putting so much effort into preparing, and everything is coming together. We want to create the best possible sporting experience for them,” said Martins.

As preparations continue, Table Tennis Canada looks forward to working with the organizing team, officials, coaches and provincial and territorial partners to help make Quebec City 2027 a memorable experience for everyone involved.
