Table Tennis Canada is proud to announce the six athletes who will represent Canada at the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games in Essen, Germany. Taking place from July 17–24, the Games bring together the world’s top university athletes in a celebration of sport, culture, and international connection.
This year’s Team Canada roster includes:
Women’s Team
- Ivy Liao (UBC, Vancouver, BC)
- Nicole Cai (Western University, Toronto, ON)
- Gina Fu (Cornell University, Toronto, ON)
- Crystal Liu (UCLA, San Diego, CA)
Men’s Team
- Kevin Guo (Yale University, Oakville, ON)
- Terence Yeung (Western University, North York, ON)
From Pan Am Games medalist Ivy Liao to rising stars like Nicole Cai and Kevin Guo, this team brings a combination of international experience and youthful energy to the table. For some, like Guo, this will be their first intercontinental competition. For others, it’s a return to the global stage with a deeper commitment to both excellence and team spirit.
“These Games are about more than just competition,” says Coach Zhenyu Qi, who will lead the team in Germany. “They’re about representing Canada, building lifelong connections, and celebrating the student-athlete experience.”
The FISU Games return this year to the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany, with Table Tennis hosted in the city of Essen. Canada will be looking to build on its historical successes at university level events, including a women’s doubles gold at the 1980 World University Championships.
