As part of TTCAN’s “Table Tennis For All (TT4ALL)” initiatives, TTCAN’s Technical Director, Marles Martins and a team of table tennis officials participated in the “Sport For All” conference held in Victoria, B.C., on 1 March 2024. Table tennis was represented by the following participants:

  • Cory Smith (ED TTSASK)
  • Carlos Cuadra (ED MTTA)
  • Sam Chen (Director BCTTA)
  • Attila Mosonyi (President OTTA)
  • Martha Mosonyi (OTTA)
  • Marles Martins (TTCAN)

Participants represented the BC Ministry of Sports, Regional and Municipal Sports Recreation Coordinators and officials from NSO’s, PTSO’s and local sports organizations.

The conference was addressed by the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Physical Activity.

Discussions regarding the future of sport centred around “Breaking Down Barriers”, with insights from senior leaders on overcoming and dismantling Barriers in Sport and Physical Activity). The conference also addressed and explored “Newcomers” and “Indigenous” Inclusion in sport.

The table tennis group was divided into separate discussion groups (tables) where the conversation was moderated by “Sports For Life” consultants. The ideas were gathered and shared with the participants at each table. The participants provided practical experiences and solutions to better integrate into sports activities the newcomers and indigenous groups.

Many useful connections were made during the conference. The hope is that these connections could pave the way to develop Table Tennis in many recreation centres and community centres in the region and across Canada.
