If you are following the news, you will see that there are wildfires in the North and both Hay River and Port Smith have been evacuated. Both towns sustained damage from the wildfires.
Although the wildfires may be extinguished by 22 September, the roads may still be closed, and the airport will be used to bring back the evacuees.
The TTCAN Board will meet to plan an alternative.
The organizing committee stated:
“The Northwest Territories had declared a state of emergency as wildfires are approaching the Towns of Hay River and Fort Smith, and now as well Yellowknife. Thesmall community of Enterprise has burned down to the ground. A devastating time for the North.”
